St. Clare of Assisi Retreat Center is honored to provide a home for ministries called to serve God’s people in the Hampton Roads area. The following communities gather here to pray, grow, and carry out their missions. We invite you to learn more about each of them.
The Secular (Lay) Order of Discalced Carmelites — Community of St. Joseph has gathered monthly at St. Clare of Assisi Retreat Center since its founding in Hampton, Virginia in 1989. Open to men and women from all walks of life, the community meets on the first Sunday of each month to grow in Carmelite spirituality through the Rule of St. Albert and the teachings of Saints Teresa of Ávila, John of the Cross, and Thérèse of Lisieux. Visitors are warmly welcome.
Arise Missionaries is a Virginia-based Catholic missionary apostolate dedicated to spreading devotion to the Holy Spirit through worship, healing, and evangelization. They partner with parishes, schools, and families — bringing renewal and the gifts of the Holy Spirit wherever they are called.
